The visited school: IES LAS HUESAS – Telde,Gran Canaria

Coordinators from all the partner institutions, principals and several teachers   met in Las Palmas, Spain on the same period, arriving on November 21st and leaving on 27th. The coordinating institution planned and organized the meeting.

Before the meeting, the hostess school worked and sent to the partners p
rovisional and final Planning, they sent useful information and prepared all about logistics: accomodation, meals, activities preparation as they asked from the participants to prepare all a presentation with information about each participating institutions and each country prepared a ppt in English which is the language of communication.

We started our work in this meeting in Las Huesas High School, where the pupils welcomed us with very nice traditional songs and dances. Then the headmaster introduced us the school, and each delegation gave a little welcome speech too. We visited the school and had

a coffee break  in a comfortable atmosphere where we met the teachers of Las Huesas and shared some ideas, after that, there was an interesting presentation of the Spanish Educational System, followed by a first work session, in order to define our priorities in the project. Moreover, the coordinator showed us some useful materials from the Spanish National Agency meeting in Madrid. Then the project coordinator made a presentation about the program and the purpose which concerned the "Water an important source of life for European citizens" and the activities that could be lustrated by the participants during the program and everything was concerned with water, the topic of our project.

Also during the meeting there were some other socio-cultural activities because in the planning were included not only work sessions, there were meals and diners with the teachers and some visits to Town Hall and Local Government too, where the consuls from Austria and Italy came with us and here we were given an interesting speech about the problems with scarcity of water in the Canary Islands, and the strategies developed to solve them. In other hand because our project topic, we were shown around the island and saw various landscapes with dams, visited the Water Desalination Factory, the Canary Institute of Sea Sciences and the Special Natural  Reserve of Maspalomas Dunes . The history and traditions of Canary Islands was related in walk by the Old Town, Vegueta or in the sightseeing in the bus therefore we visited some villages, the Archeological Cave and Columbus House, the last stop before Spanish sailors reached America.

The importance in this first meeting came because of Latvia, country that was the coordinator school, and Ireland weren’t in the project now, that’s the reason because we had to make a redefinition of the project without to change the main idea but reviewing : Design, Objectives and Activities, Results and Products , Involvement, Impact and Assessment so the project coordinator explained, from six schools we became four changing the coordinator centre LV for SP. The mobilities needed to be readjusted because those two countries could take a lot students and what happen now?  (When? , Where?, Who?)
Thinking about two years of the project, would come agreements about the planned work, activities, products, monitoring etc, the Application Form should be reviewed by all, in that first meeting.

Therefore so important things like English Shared Treasury (EST): put up materials and products,   e-Twinning or Europass and Student Mobility, we decided to work in them in our next meeting in Greece.

Following here are the changes and agreements in this meeting which should be informed in each National Agency in our medium report in next June because we have changed parts of the sections in the official Comenius Project Papers. (Aplication Form).

MODIFICATION OF MOBILITIES

In this part we had a very hard work mainly because we couldn’t go to Ireland or Latvia with our students and they were where we had planed outgoing mobilities  with a lot of pupils. We knew that Greek school is “evening school” so there are some problems with the ages of our students and of course with the mobilities   because the Spanish, Austrian and Italian pupils are much younger than the Greek ones, and with very different needs for that reason they shouldn’t go to their vocational lessons or houses. All this and add that none student went to the first meeting, created  the follow changes:

Agreements and conculisions from first transnational meeting.

Even though some of them have been written before, when we explain the redefinition, here we point the fact that from this meeting in Gran Canaria the Austrian, Italian and Greek partners have had a better knowledge about the historical problems with water like a resource for the life of citizens in Canary Islands so they can explain it in their schools. Also all partners school coordinators wrote a report after this meeting and in all of them, partners tell  how positive was the event and how fine all participated actively, defined the work that need to be done, the cooperation and the communication between the participants for the next years so how interesting was the participation in the school lessons, the discussions about Spanish educational system, the visits, show the presentations, ect.  In this days we discussed the programs aims that were related to the students, the teachers and the school community.
